The internship is designed for students seeking on-the-job experience and college credit, but students may also work for pay if the position offers compensation. The course will address aspects of screenwriting cinematic narration, script format, contemporary film theory, and technical considerations.
Many of our graduates also continue on to pursue graduate studies in creative writing, linguistics, education, composition, rhetoric, journalism, media, English, and law.
The Creative Writing major offers the largest number of creative writing courses of any college in Arkansas. Students will also be prepared to authoritatively evaluate and engage in sophisticated discussions on contemporary authors and issues in the genre. Discourse analytic methods and techniques will be discussed and illustrated in detail.
Degrees and Programs — Film, Theatre, and Creative Writing The program prepares students for work in the motion picture industry by focusing on the use of new technology with the fundamentals of storytelling. The genres may include horror, science fiction, fantasy, mysteries, westerns, and others.
Research and a reading list may be required. The course is required for both creative writing and writing studies majors and minors.
We offer two publishing assistantships, one with the award-winning national magazine the Oxford American, and one with our new online magazine, Arkana. Prerequisites: Qualitative research sample thesis titleone Ievel creative writing course, and consent of the internship committee.
Students gain an advanced knowledge of subject matter, including key criticism. What can you do with a theatre degree?
Students will present drafts of work for peer review and discussion and will submit a portfolio or original material at the end of the course. We do not stand on seniority — If a Freshman fits the part, they are cast in the play.
These might include: picture books, nonfiction, middle grade books, and young adult novels.
For admittance to our program, previous theatre experience is a plus, but not absolutely necessary. Some class time will be devoted to peer review and discussion, invention exercises, and marketing strategies.
Course may be repeated for credit. The course is taught as a workshop.
Directed Study is especially useful to students who plan to go on to graduate study and to students seeking professional careers in writing. Students will administer and attend all, or nearly all, visiting author presentations during that semester.
In addition to discussion and lectures, students will observe and describe creative writing classes at levels pertinent to their teaching average history dissertation length and develop an integrated practice lesson. All students complete a thesis project.
Prerequisite: CRWR and completion of six hours of upper-division creative writing courses.
Each student will be responsible for researching, writing and ultimately creating a creative book-length manuscript appropriate to the genre of choice, with a critical introduction. Subjects will be determined by instructor interest and expertise. Undergraduates in creative writing learn about the process of submitting for publication, and many publish original works while still in the program.
You will study ten novella-length works from different cultural traditions, learn to analyze and critique them, and write your own novella, which will be extensively workshopped in class.
